whats the whole ATLANTIS thing about? i never heard anything about it so im

a total newbie about it HELP? this guy that i like... on his facebook, his location is "Atlantis" so i googled it and i still DONT GET IT. what IS ATLANTIS?

According to greek legend it's a city that had super advanced technology, advancements in the arts, and beautifull architecture. It angered the god poseidon somehow and he flooded the entire city. Where it suposedly lays in ruins today. I'm suprised you havn't ever heard of it considering how much of an influence the story has had on popular culture and society in general. The initial story is told by the great writer of the ancient greek world Homer. I can't remember the exact story, but it's incredibly famous and I can't understand why you are able find it online.

My family puts it as this: Atlantis is a city lost under the ocean in beauty. I call it the city ones mind could only create. Zeus was angry with the ones who called it home and called Poseidon to bring massive storms and thus now it is a sunken beauty. Now my family says that it isnt home to the people of land but the people of the deep.

According to Plato, Atlantis was a continent that sank into the sea about 9000 years before his time (c400 B. C.). What Plato and others of his day meant by "continent" may not be exactly what we mean today. It could have been a smaller land mass. Some scientists think that he was referring to the Greek isle of Thera, which was partially destroyed by an earthquake and/or volcanic eruption about 900 (hundred, not thousand) years before then.. (The remaining part of that island is now called Santorini.)

Now let's add another fact. You may have read that the "Red Sea" that the Israelites crossed on their flight from Egypt was actually the "Reed Sea" or sea of reeds. The words for "red" and "reed" are as similar in Hebrew as they are in English. (So I'm informed by a priest who has studied Hebrew.) The Reed Sea, however, is or was on the other side of the Isthmus of Suez from the Red Sea--an inlet in the Mediterranean. Some scientists have suggested that the parting of the waters that enabled the Israelites to cross and the backwash that drowned their Egyptian pursuers were the result of a tsunami caused by the eruption/earthquake that destroyed Thera.

In other words, God was going to get the Israelites out of Egypt if he had to sink Atlantis to do it!

Atlantis is the lost city.... were you ever a kid? There are different versions of the story. I grew up with:

Many years ago there was a city, a beautiful city where the magestic Draconians lived, mingling with commoners. Draconians were humans who were gifted with wings.. They flew and over looked the city, protecting it from harm.

But after years the Draconians became concieted and power-hungry. They wanted to be thought of a's lords. The mere humans should have to revere them.

So taking the mantle of Kings and Queens they began to rule. But, Zues, who had gifted them this power, was ashamed and Angry. So he struck, raining lightning bolts down on the sky and Posiedan (his brother) raised seas.

Finally, after many days and night the city sank, forever holding it's beauty.
