Access WSG in China?

I will be in Tian Jin for 2.5 weeks in Jan. so have been reading and found nothing yet.

I was in beijing for the last 2 months I pretty much had no problem getting on to mpnet, however when I was at a couple spots in tian jing I couldn't get on no big deal not much info on tianjing anyways!

I have found that from 4 and 5* international hotels, using my own laptop, getting into mpnet is not an issue. Just in case, I typically cut and paste the info I want in advance and email it to myself... but it has never been a problem.

Using Tor and Privoxy together is a pain to set up but works great once done.
The Onion Router (Privoxy) means that you can access any site and the privacy function (from running Tor) hides and your computer as it goes so you can't be traced.

You must go through the literature that you get from the websites and follow what they say re- making sure the browsers "Log Files" are not stored and that the browser is told to access sites only through privoxy.

If not, even though you are running privoxy, your browser ignores it and still contacts the web directly.

Have a read through the websites literature and the set up is a pain but traight forward.

In Dongguan since Mid of July I have surprisingly access to this site (and many other former blocked sites ;-) without any proxy either I use China Telecom DSL at home or in the office.

Hope it will keep like this forever...

I've tried getting here from a couple different regions in China, using proxies, and it's been pretty hit-or-miss.

I think the solution is either to be able to VPN somewhere else and then come here, or to have remote access to a linux machine where I can set up an SSH tunnel pointing here... but either of those happening probably involves "the Company" and I don't log in here from work.

OK so i cannot get in form China so i type this from a vaca week in Thailand.

I downloaded tor and privoxy and I run that stuff and try to get to this site and it is still "page not avialable" what do i do? Am i running this stuff wrong? Help! The Arfmeister is a loyal poster of good info (WHEN I can get on in another country) but I need access in hometown of mainland China. HELP! Thanks.

So I sit in Seoul tonight able to access. I live in Shanghai in one of those expat compounds and I am definitely blocked there!! so that is a shout out to supers54 in his post below. I am definitely going to try this onion advice here and will see what happens . . . I have also tried from various hotels in BJ, GZ, Wuhan, CDu etc - - - all blocked. Maybe I am just lucky. Any other idesa from you all are most welcome!! Especially in next 48 hours before i go back behind the bamboo curtain.

Hi Guys,

I've been 6 years in the mainland and Ive ended up relying on "Tor" and "Privoxy". Just go to their websites and download the software then set it up as they guide you to on the site.

These are "Onion Routers" and they use lots of different servers so bypassing the censorship blocks that are in the Mainland. The blocking itself depends on who is providing the internet service and area. They change the blocks frequently as well, so you don't know when you are going to be blocked.

I've found it depends on where you are in China, as censorship is regional. Also depends on what hotel you are in, some seem to be more strictly abiding by the rules than others. I know in expat 'compounds' in China there is also no censorship. If you are having problems try using a proxy outside of China.

It will be tricky, because of the home screen pop-ups. You might not be able to access, and that goes for wireless too.

There has been much press on Chinese Internet Censorship. Is there a problem with accessing the mpnet in China. At an Internet massageplanete. Or over a wireless network if you bring your own computer?
