So, I tried the corresponding app that reads the QR code and it not only gives your vac status, it gives your full legal name. So, if agencies or MPs try to get you to send your QR code or scan it, do NOT let them.

Yes, bit of a dilemma if they ask because it is designed to give your info.
When going to a restaurant, for instance, you have to show ID as well as your QR code so they can see that you are actually the person who owns that validated QR code.

Don't know if any agencies or MPs have asked for it but I figure why not just put it out there? The Verify Ontario app is marketed to businesses so how many individuals would install it? Other than me of course!

I installed it to test a few friends' QR codes (at their request) to make sure they worked properly and to see what info is shown.
Nothing nefarious about it and I would never ask someone if I could scan their code.

Exactly. I've been using my real name with the girls for years. If they like you they know the business and won't ask about your personal details. If they don't like you all they'll remember is how much you tip - and then share that info with other girls.

The app doesn't have location permission so it can't track your movement. The app is open source and the source code is here:

Anyone with the skills to do so can review the code for suspicious activity or security issues, and many already have.

Real talk, how does one track via a QR code? It's literally just a bar code... Whether that's a digital copy or on paper, it doesn't really matter.. The only way they can track is if they scan it (paper or digital) and track it like FourSquare or something, and 19/20 places I went to don't even scan it. So it's a pretty shitty tracking system

I've shown my QR code a couple of times now at restaurants. No big deal as they don't even have to scan it because my full name is right there beside the code. I was more thinking along the lines of if SPs or MPs ask you to send the code so they can "pre-screen" you. That would be a huge NO NO.

Good advice. Don't share any personal information about yourself to anyone. Identity theft is rampant, worse than Covid itself.

I just read the other day, some scammers posted fake job openings on line, just so they can get personal information from innocent job seekers.

Your opinion isn't so far fetched. All you guys need to do is make a few copies of your vaccination proof, and laminate them for durability and protection. Fuck the QR codes.

If the government can't force vaccinations, then nobody's going to tell me to use a QR code instead of the paper version.
