Lady drink 2-tier pricing

This is a new one on me. Last night at a bar front of Tiger checked the price list>>>

Lady Drink 170baht
Lady Dance 200baht

Got myself a San Mig Light and LD for the lady sat with me who had been standing with a price list enticing people in. Checked bin...320baht! Turns out because she also pole dances Lady Drinks for her are 200baht...170baht for the other girls who don't get a salary.

I quite often buy beers for girls i know at normal prices.
Usually after 1 or 2 LD`s,i tell them i cant afford any more,so they are happy to just drink a beer.

True, but I suspect that she'd be far happier if you skipped the lady drinks and just gave her $$$$ as a tip. If it's all about the money, why not just give the money directly?

As would all BG's as they only get a small cut from the LD, but the point is if you want her to sit down with you then the LD is the only way. Besides a lot of these BG's are on a bonus if they hit so many LD's in a month so it benefits the BG and the bar i guess...

This particular bar lady gets 70baht commission per drink.

Something else I've recently become aware of...I always thought when you tipped on top of the bill at a bar that the tips all went into a pot and were shared out between the staff every week/month but many bars all the tips go to the owner.

I too was under the impression that the tip box was shared between the staff at the end of the evening. If i knew the owner got it all i wouldn't leave a tip but instead but some baht directly in the pocket of the service staff who'd been taking care

Vote with your feet, i too had the same bill in a bar in Tiger, and never went back ..
I find it especially grating when the girl downs the drink in record time and then says "one more".

i've seen that one, 1 large super bar with the hip hop band in patpong didnt share out the tips one bar man told me. so when you left a 10/20 baht on the little tray, that went into a bucket and kept by the owner and the manager.

and its no different in the uk either, my mrs first job in a thai restraunt, not only did they try to pay her way under the minimum wage, but all tips from all staff went into the pot and into the managers and owners pocket. so of course when customers would have the option to leave a tip for good service on their credit card when they pay on the little machines, the boys and girls wouldnt even get a chance to touch it. when i said just fukin take the money its yours, as what that place is doing is 100% illegal! just put it in your pocket. they said that they recon they would get fired. either way, i made her quit that job straight away. almost felt like reporting the place, but i didnt as i knew there were a few workers who were not meant to be working in there u know what i mean 55. so just left it. still makes me sick though

Not disputing it, its just not the normal practice.

If people are doing that then it's pure greed and doubt they would hang on to good staff for too long.

We all know working in food and beverage that low staff salaries are topped up with tips

I don't believe in tipping automatically, but only when I think the person deserves a tip, and in that case, the money is put directly into THEIR hands so there's no question about where it should go.

My favorite waitress at a local sea food restaurant told me long ago that if I wanted my tips to go to her, I need to give it to her directly. I've never forgotten that.

As to "lady drinks", I've never understood that - if I want to buy someone a drink, I'll order a drink and give it to the person, not that I'm in bars all that often anyway. As to bars, the surest way to make certain I *won't* buy someone a drink, is for them to ask for one. If I want to get someone a drink, I'll bring it up. If they ask for one, that means they're not getting anything, unless I already know them and we have some kind of understanding between us.

I could care less about the term "cheap charlie", as to me it refers to anyone not throwing their money around as freely as the recipients would like. If I like someone, I'll usually do more than what's expected, not less, but only if it's "my" idea. Once someone asks for it, they get nothing.

I've noticed that in some restaurants there, the waiters/waitresses seemd like they couldn't care less whether you tipped them or how much you tipped, did not seem happy for you return business, when you had tipped them well, either. Maybe that is an explanation, i.e., them not getting the tips.

170B seems high, and 200B seems way over the top.

Obviously they are not concerned about return business, but relying on the newbies fresh off the plane to provide business for them.
