Biology A&P anything out there to help with latin terms

hi all, right now i'm taking a college level biology: anatomy and physiology course to prep me for geting into MT school. Anyways I'm doing ok due to all the work I put into it.
I was wondering if there is anything out there to help learn some of the latin terms used in bilogy :?: Thats where I'm having trouble. Maybe i just need an ordinary medical dictionary.
I hate learning a new term or body part and the definition has more than 2 words i have to look up the meaning to. Right now we are on chapter 4 of a 16 chapter text and I'm hoping it gets easier as I learn the basic terms

My professor (I'm taking an Anatomy course at a college for the same reason you are) told us not to worry about the Latin. Once you get used to it, the longer terms are the ones that are actually easier to understand.

My textbook has a little section with Latin word roots and such. But if yours doesn't, or if it isn't enough for you, then s small medical dictionary would probably help.

It does get easier. We're doing muscles now, and just knowing the Latin name gives me a good idea of where the muscle is and what its action is-- so a lot of times I can figure out just where on the cadaver the named muscle is-- without having to look in my book (which makes it easy).

In our Anatomy and Physiology textbook of Massage Therapy it had the latin definitions for prefix and suffix. It was about 4 pages worth of charts. It helped alot.

A&P Latin terms

I agree that you might want to look for a used Steadman's or other medical dictionary.
I never took Latin in school but I studied French and Spanish and my parents were language teachers. I have a good ear for language.
When I started in massage I found that many of the muscle names were descriptors for location, number of heads, action, etc. This made is more of a game to figure out where things are located. If I don't know where the muscle is I try to figure it out by the name.

I agree. Definitely look at the muscles see where they are located, see where they attach and originate from. Even if you have to take a skeleton and bring rubber bands with you to put them where the origins and insertions are and mimic their actions. But I think it is everything else that goes along with it. It is a lot of information at first but it all makes sense, give it time.
